A manicure inspired by my new favorite book, Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor & Park!
This design makes me wish my fingers were all the same length. ‘Park’ is so much taller than ‘Eleanor’ when they should really be shoulder to shoulder, sitting together on the school bus.
Eleanor’s yellow top is N.Y.C. In a New York Color Minute Lexington Yellow. I created her red curls by dotting China Glaze Riveting down part of the nail, then layering loose rows of Lexington Yellow dots and Riveting dots over one another.
For Park, I started with a couple of coats of Zoya Avery, which would become the back of his neck. When that was dry, I taped off the top half of my nail and painted the bottom half blue with Zoya Robyn. Then I used a medium striping brush to paint Park’s black hair.
I used Avery on my pinky and index fingers and thumb, too. If I were handy with a striper, I would have added the ampersand in the title or black headphone wires. Eleanor and Park bond over music (and comic books, feeling like misfits, and that inexplicable, unpredictable connection between two people that neither one expects). Park makes mixtapes for Eleanor, and Rainbow Rowell made the modern day mixtape for her readers: Eleanor & Park playlists!
I got to meet Rainbow last week at the NYC Teen Author Festival Reader Theater at the Union Square B&N. It’s been a long time since I really wanted to go to a book event that I wasn’t already attending for work, and I’m so glad I went! When Rainbow signed my book, she was rocking hot pink and bright blue polish.
